Why Abrasive Blasting?

Abrasive Blasting has several benefits over manually sanding and preparing any surface for new paint. Speed, saving time is on everyone's minds today, and when you have something “Blasted” not only is it faster but also a much cleaner effective process. Blasting leaves no residue and ensures all old coatings are completely removed, giving you a nice smooth finish of clean metal on your project with no visible edges or feathering under your new paint. This procedure also will highlight any defects, increasing your visibility of any cracks in welds, pinholes in steel, making any repairs needed not only easier but also faster and safer. So go ahead “GET BLASTED”

Common Abrasive Materials

Modern blasting shops use a variety of different abrasives depending on the application. Most of these are made from recycled materials, some are raw materials. Commonly used abrasives include:

  • Plastic Media
  • Coal Slag
  • Aluminum Oxide
  • Crushed Glass
  • Glass Beads
  • Silica Sand
  • Steel Grit
  • Baking Soda
  • Corn Cob

We Refrain From Using Sand for Abrasive Blasting Services

Abrasive blasting is commonly referred to as sandblasting, although the use of actual sand is not recommended. There are a variety of problems with using sand, such as:

  • Needs to be dried before use
  • Low hardness on Moh's Scale, uses more material per square foot
  • Contaminated with minerals such as salt, which is adverse to the metal
  • Dirty and dusty
  • Contains free silica, a health hazard
  • Poor use of resources
